New City Snow Services for Winter 2025–2026

Last updated: Dec 1, 2025

The City of Mississauga has introduced several new winter services to help keep Rockwood Village safe and accessible this snowy season. Most notably, all residential driveway windrows and residential sidewalks will now be cleared citywide – with no registration required.

Below is an overview of what Rockwood residents can expect this winter.

1. NEW: Residential Driveway Windrow Clearing

New for Winter 2025–2026, the City will clear driveway windrows at all single, double, and shared driveways across Mississauga when we receive 5 cm or more of snow.

  • At least a 3-metre-wide opening will be cleared at the end of your driveway.

  • Windrow clearing begins after your street has received its final round of plowing.

  • Depending on snowfall, driveway windrows are usually cleared 4–6 hours after the last plow pass.

A windrow is the ridge of snow left at the end of your driveway after the street has been plowed.

Please note:

  • The opening will not be cleared to bare pavement.

  • The area is not salted.

To make sure your windrow can be cleared:

  • Do not park on the road or at the lower end of your driveway.

  • On waste collection days, keep bins away from the curb.

  • Remove obstacles near the bottom of your driveway (sports nets, planters, ornaments, etc.).

Windrow clearing timelines (after final plow pass):

  • Less than 5 cm: No windrow service

  • 5–15 cm: Opening cleared within 4 hours

  • 15–30 cm: Opening cleared within 6 hours

  • More than 30 cm or back-to-back storms: Opening cleared after 6+ hours

2. NEW: Citywide Residential Sidewalk Clearing

Also new this winter, the City will clear:

  • All priority sidewalks (major roads, bus routes, schools, hospitals, long-term care homes), plus

  • All residential sidewalks, including those in Rockwood Village.

Snow clearing starts during the storm, but timelines are measured from when the snow stops.

To ensure your sidewalk can be cleared:

  • Do not park your vehicle across or over the sidewalk.
Vehicles blocking sidewalks will prevent the plow from passing.

Sidewalk & residential road timelines (after snowfall ends):

  • Less than 5 cm: Surfaces salted within 24 hours

  • 5–15 cm: Plowed and salted within 24 hours

  • 15–30 cm or back-to-back storms: Plowed and salted within 36 hours

  • More than 30 cm: Plowed and salted after 36+ hours

These surfaces may not be cleared to bare pavement and can have some packed snow. Snow pushed aside near sidewalks by plows will not be cleared again.

3. Priority Roads, Sidewalks & Multi-use Trails

City crews clear snow using a priority route system:

  1. Priority roads – emergency routes, transit routes and high-traffic roads

  2. Priority sidewalks & roadside multi-use trails – along major roads, bus routes and near schools, hospitals and long-term care homes

  3. Residential roads & residential sidewalks – including local Rockwood streets

If heavy snow continues during operations, crews may need to restart the full route, which can lengthen timelines.

Priority sidewalks, roadside trails & bus stops – timelines (after snowfall ends):

  • Less than 5 cm: Salted within 12 hours

  • 5–15 cm: Plowed and salted within 12 hours

  • 15–30 cm: Plowed and salted within 24 hours

  • More than 30 cm or back-to-back storms: Plowed and salted after 24+ hours

Again, expect packed snow in some areas rather than bare pavement.

4. Track the Plows Online

You can follow winter operations in real time using the City’s Plow Tracker:

  • See where plows and salters have been.

  • Check the status of snow clearing in Rockwood Village.

  • Plan your travel based on which roads have been cleared.

Visit mississauga.ca/snow and click “Track My Plow” [HERE]

5. Significant Weather Events

The City may declare a Significant Weather Event when a storm poses extra risk to people travelling on roads or sidewalks.

When this happens:

  • Standard snow-clearing timelines are suspended.

  • Crews focus first on priority roads and key infrastructure.

  • Clearing local streets and sidewalks may take longer than usual.

6. NEW: Citywide Winter Parking Restriction & $150 Penalty

To help plows reach all streets and windrows, Mississauga has introduced a new Citywide Winter Parking Restriction with a $150 penalty for vehicles parked on the road when a restriction is in effect.

When a Citywide Winter Parking Restriction is declared:

  • No on-street parking is allowed (except where signs specifically permit, such as 15-hour zones).

  • This applies even on statutory holidays and religious observances.

  • Temporary and residential parking permits will not be issued and any current permits will be suspended.
