Annual General Meeting - 2024
At our AGM on September 26th, 2024 there were many complaints from the floor about the Rathburn-Ponytrail project. They included comments about the narrow lanes and tight turns. Many asked about the traffic lights, particularly at Rockwood Road, where although the road is paved, the timers do not appear to be functioning. It was also noted that the pedestrian crossing lights are not activated. Colangelo advised that these would be resolved when the paving was completed.
The tree canopy and tree replacement were raised. The group was told that the contractor did not follow directions in regard to the trees and once construction was completed, forestry would assess the site.
Councillor Fonseca requested a meeting to walk the site with forestry, open to residents, and will notify RRA of the date.
Faced with too many questions, and too little time, Biason requested all other questions be sent to [email protected] and advised that she would forward them to the city for answers, which will be posted on RRA website.
Councillor Fonseca offered to hold a virtual meeting option at a date TBD to fully answer questions from the community.

Summary NOtes from August 15th RHA Meeting
At our AGM in May, our residents expressed their disappointment with the postponement of the reconstruction of Rathburn and Ponytrail until 2023, and the lack of information on many of the details.
At that time, we asked for a meeting with city planners to answer our questions and concerns.
That meeting was held on August 15, 2022 and a summary of the discussion plus Q&A can be found here.

Airport Alert
....In April, 2017, the Residents of Rockwood were under siege from what felt like unrelenting aircraft noise. It came without any warning and stole the quiet enjoyment from our community. It lasted almost 2 months, but it seemed like an eternity.
Five years later, and following 2 years of bliss where there was barely any activity at the airport, GTAA has announced that major construction on the 06L/24R, the second busiest runway will commence in April with a scheduled completion in October. In other words, all the traffic that normally would be handled on this runway will be diverted. It is not yet known how much traffic will be diverted to the north/south runways, right over our neighbourhood or the summer and maybe longer!!

Mississauga is exploring ways to increase housing options in residential neighborhoods as the Province of Ontario is now requiring municipalities to permit:
- Two additional residential units on lots with a detached, semi-detached, or rowhouse. Examples of these are garden suites or garage conversions
- A range and mix of housing types such as duplexes and triplexes, and different living arrangements such as co-ownership and home share

RATHBURN ROAD EAST AND PONYTRAIL DRIVE
INTEGRATED ROAD PROJECT
The City is proposing changes that will have a significant impact on our community. Before the plan is rubber stamped, the RHA wanted the city to hear your voices, and to ensure that every resident knows exactly how some of the measures to be taken will impact our neighbourhood.
To measure the community reaction to this proposal, a survey was sent to our email subscribers.
The results of the survey and the RHA response to the City, based on the survey results, are posted below.

It is clear that our residents feel that our current trails are sufficient for local use, and improvements should be concentrated on community use preferences. Connecting our existing trail and providing safe passage across Ponytrail Drive appears to be the will of Rockwood Village.

Additional NEWS:
When construction of watermain work on Ponytrail was completed last year, the curbs and islands were temporarily repaired in light of resurfacing and other changes to be undertaken in 2021. This timing allowed for residents to have some input on changes to the area of Ponytrail and Rathburn. At the AGM on October 21, 2020, Rory O’Sullivan, Transport Engineer, and Jeremy Blair, Manager of Transportation Infrastructure Management put forward the current proposal for the area.

The City rolled out the plans for changes coming to the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre at the RHA’s AGM in October.
Residents were advised that the pool at Glen Forest will be relocated to the community center. To make room for the 43,000 sq. ft. aquatic center, the outdoor rink will be removed. For details, see December 2020 Newsletter |
