Mississauga City council has enacted a new bylaw to ensure households can be easily identified by first responders. The new bylaw requires street addresses for all residential and commercial properties in Mississauga be clearly displayed and easily identified from the street.
Property owners are asked to affix and maintain durable street numbers that are not less than 4” high and are in contrast with the background on which they are mounted. Commercial, industrial, institutional and apartment buildings must display 6” numbers. All street numbers must be clearly visible from the nearest municipal roadway regardless of time of day. The number should also be located near the entrance to the building.
The changes to the bylaw reflects the need to ensure that police, fire and ambulance crews are able to locate property address as quickly as possible to ensure that valuable time is not lost trying to identify the street address.
