President, Rockwood Homeowners' Association

Hello Rockwood Village residents!

As we head into cooler days, take the time to walk through your neighbourhood. Rockwood Village is home to a number of parks with beautiful displays of coloured leaves and foliage. When those leaves fall to the ground, take advantage of the City of Mississauga’s Vacuum Leaf Pickup program. Rockwood Village is one of the few older wards which have many mature trees and is a designated community in the Leaf Pickup Program.

It was great to see many of our local residents attend our AGM in May at the Sts. Martha and Mary Church in the Knights of Columbus Hall. We thank the residents who came out and met with our Community Response Officer, Constable Laura Wells. For any safety concerns and matters of crime in the community, please contact Constable Wells at (905) 453-3311, ext. 3679.

Also in attendance was City of Mississauga’s, Scott Anderson, who made a presentation on the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), expected to open November 2014. Save the date for the Transitway Open House on Saturday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Watch the website for further details.

In August, Rockwood residents attended SummerFest in Fleetwood Park, hosted by environmental partner, TRCA (Toronto and Region Conservation Authority). Residents enjoyed a free BBQ, children’s activities and TRCA partner booths. TRCA has a number of environmental workshops and programs in which residents can participate. In September, TRCA held a Downspout Disconnection workshop at the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre. For those who missed it or would like additional information, TRCA will be holding an additional workshop on October 23.

October 27 is the Municipal Election. Rogers TV is hosting Ward 3 and Mayoral Debates broadcasts at various times before the election. Go to rogerstv.com for specific times.

We welcome your input! RHA has embraced social media, so you can always connect with us via Facebook and Twitter. Have a great fall season!
