Speeding, Traffic & Safety Update

10/11/2015

Click here tUnfortunately, aggressive driving remains a common concern throughout the city.  The most effective deterrent is strict, consistent police enforcement.  However, with limited resources, police tend to concentrate efforts on the major collector and arterial roadways where higher volumes and speeds can result in more severe collisions.  Since elected to Council in 2010, I have worked with Peel Regional Police, Mississauga Traffic and Ward 3 Residents to address speeding, traffic and safety issues. A member of Traffic Safety Committee for this term, to provide safety awareness to both the motorist and the resident, I have either initiated and continue to support:   • (NSW): Neighbourhood, • Speed Watch •  Speed Trailers  •  Road Watch Council approved a traffic calming pilot program for the City of Mississauga.  Please view Item 5 on www7.mississauga. ca/documents/agendas/committees/general/2015/01_14_15_ GC_Agenda.pdf.
As part of this pilot program, three locations have received physical traffic calming measures, and will be monitored by staff throughout the year.  If this pilot is successful, Council may adopt this program on a full time basis which also may be expanded to evaluate other candidate locations. The Province of Ontario is reviewing speed limits in urban areas and consulting with other municipalities. As part of this consultation, we want to hear from you to help make the right choice for Mississauga.  Please take a minute to read the province’s proposed options and take our short survey at app.keysurvey.com/votingmodule/s180/f/965275/6c73/     mississauga.cao edit.

Traffic calming I believe works, because it reminds you that yes, you
are speeding, The one on Fieldgate southbound from eastgate parkway is helped a lot by the stoplight just past this flashing 50 km
sign. You could almost use it to trigger the light to turn red. This street is a busy fast street being a major artery that brings people
home and south to Rathburn and Burnhamthorpe.
A lot of people use Bough Beechs to get to Rathburn and a lot of them speed to do this. We had one vehicle leave the road and
proceed to total
a car in the driveway and push the camper beside into the brick Garage This was at the top of Claypine rise, closest to the
catholic school to the west. There was a calming sign just past
this location but it has been gone for awhile. I would lke to see a
speed bump on either side of the catholic school and one halfway
down Bough Beechs to the east. This would change this street
from being a major artery to a "residential street". The accident
I mentioned happened this past Spring The road has a curve in
this location, basically changing direction. I've noticed that speed
and change of direction are a challenge for most drivers and add
in high speed and anything could happen. Men in general are the fast drivers, ( include younger & new ) but there are also quite a
lot of fast women drivers ( Mothers ) trying to get home to put dinner on and checking to see where there children are and also
younger and new women drivers. ( Men are still the worst )
I walk my dogs in this area ( I live on Claypine ) This is a residential
area and Bough Beeches is not driven on like a 40km residential
street. Trust me, I cross it everyday to go to the Hydro fields north
of Audubon (west of the Hydro right away Audubon could use a
at least one speed bump also.) I hope one day Bough Beeches
will become a residential street. Thankyou Kevin
P.S. Maybe there should be more than one speed bump on the
the straight away to the east of Claypine On Bough Beeches!
